As a
photographer, I am often told by my clients in manner of desperate plea just before we begin, "...but I don't know how to pose."
Well, thank merciful crap. Don't do
THAT. Posing will ruin our
perfectly lovely time, and probably our photographs, too! Speaking from
years of experience in front of the lens and behind, posing and natural
beauty are not the keys to appearing photogenic. Posturing and awareness
are.
So, with that in mind, and direct from me to you, here are a handful of
fail-safe tips to
looking your absolute best in photographs - whether you have your
clothes on or are baring it all.
:
Fake it to make it. If you're not 100% confident in front of the camera... you're like everyone else - including me. Fake it. You can fool the camera, but more often than not, just feigning confidence will make you feel more empowered. Action follows thought.
Create movement. Dynamic photographs require energy, mood and little movement. Run your hands through your hair. Cross and uncross your legs. Straighten out your stockings. Lean back and roll your neck slowly from one side to another. Trust your photographer to capture you in motion, at your most flattering.
Never stand straight on to the camera. Seriously, don't do it. You will look like a body-builder. Which is awesome if you
are a body-builder, but otherwise... not so much. Stand with one
shoulder turned slightly toward the camera with the other turned away.
Know your best side. We all have one. Go to the mirror and find yours. And once
you've identified it, ruthlessly present it at all times. (Unless your trusted photographer tells you otherwise, of course.)
Keep your arms slightly apart from your body. You will automatically appear slimmer.
Don't stare directly into the lens. Instead, look just a little above and ever-so-slightly to one side. Or out the window. Or down at your own body. Even close your eyes for a few moments.
Exaggerate your posture. Arch your back, lift your chest, chin slightly raised. Really stretch out your wobbly bits. Taut looks better than flabby every time.
When smiling, touch your tongue against the back of your top front teeth and push. This tightens the jawline and makes your smile appear that much more dazzling.
RELAX and HAVE FUN! A woman at east and enjoying the moment is always beautiful and sexy.
